Leaf samples of 73 cultivars in Hibiscus syriacus were analyzed for 13 isozymes using starch gel electrophoresis. The banding patterns of 9 loci from 6 isozymes, glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI), phosphoglucomutase (PGM), 6-phosphogluconate dehyrogenase (6-PGD) were determined. Among them, GDH, GOT©û, GOT©ü, PGI©ü, PGM©û, PGM©ü showing detectable and various banding patterns of isozymes were considered to be useful for the identification of H. syriacus cultivars. Most of isozymes resolved appeared to be polymorphism and all of them except GDH were controlled by two or more loci.
